Five suspects are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate's court on Monday after they were nabbed by the Hawks in connection with R30 million worth of illicit cigarettes.
Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke says the suspects were arrested on Friday after police received a tip-off.
The illicit cigarettes were kept at a farm between Musina and Beitbridge border post, waiting to be transported to different destinations in the country.
The five suspects have been charged with contravening the Customs and Excise Act.
“A preliminary investigation led to the discovery of a bakkie and another truck in the vicinity that were also fully loaded with suspected illicit cigarettes.”
The street value of the cigarettes is estimated at R30 million.
