Police in the Eastern Cape have launched a manhunt for two unknown suspects who allegedly raped five matric pupils.

The matriculants were also robbed at gunpoint in the Mqhekezweni Administrative area.
The incident took place while the pupils were preparing for Wednesday’s matric final exams.
The Eastern Cape Education Department said the pupils were also assaulted and robbed.
The province’s education MEC, Fundile Gade, is scheduled to visit the school on Thursday.
“The entire sector is shocked by this barbaric act of raping learners, and we shall provide all the necessary support to the victims, including their families. It is so sad that we must condemn violence against girl learners, whom the society is supposed to protect as future leaders,” said Gade.
Gade’s spokesperson, Mali Mtima, confirmed that the MEC has already provided psychosocial support to the victims’ families, classmates, and educators.
Eastern Cape police said the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigations Unit has assembled a team to investigate the rape and robbery.
