Flash floods hit parts of Limpopo

Flash floods have caused minor damage in Xigalo outside Malamulele in Limpopo this afternoon.

Trees have been uprooted amid the heavy downpour.
The South African Weather Services has issued an alert for possible severe thunderstorms for parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
Weather forecaster Kholofelo Mahlangu showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the week.

"The severe thundershowers are forecast for over the Highveld of Mpumalanga and the southern parts of Limpopo."
"This may come with possible heavy downpours, as well hail and strong winds." Mahlangu explained.
Mahlangu says good rains are also expected over the weekend.

The much-needed rain comes amid the severe drought which has gripped the country.
Acting Limpopo premier Jerry Ndou says dam levels in the province have dropped significantly over the past year.
He addressed the media yesterday at the province's Executive Council budget lekgotla.
"The Flag Boshielo Dam, with a full storage capacity of 185.2 million cubic metres was last year sitting at 59.4% and this week is at 16.7%."
