A police officer in northern KwaZulu-Natal was arrested over the weekend for the death of a local in Impendle.

It’s understood the officer arrived at a house on Saturday after a complaint from a community member about the theft of goats.
It’s believed an argument erupted between the pair when the victim accused the officer of flirting with a woman known to the victim.
Spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Ndileka Cola says the officer allegedly fired a single shot, killing the man.
“The complainant allegedly went to the police station, requested police officers to accompany them to the suspect’s home. The police escorted the complainant to the suspect’s home, as they searched the house, it is alleged that the police officer was flirting with one the ladies who were apparently having a party in the same house.
“The police allegedly fired one shot at the deceased, he was taken to the nearest clinic by a family member and he died later in the same clinic,” Cola adds.
The 31-year-old police officer will appear at the Impendle Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
