Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube says she is looking forward to the discussions on the two contentious clauses of the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Act.

President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday signed the BELA Bill into law, while delaying the implementation of two clauses for three months to allow consultations with parties that are against its current form.
The clauses which relate to school admission and language policies.
Gwarube, who is a member of the DA, boycotted the signing of the bill.
"The focus now is for us to implement the parts of the bill that has been signed into law," she said on Monday.
“There are different clauses of the bill which is now subject to process of consultation. We will wait to see what that process of consultation looks like and what the outcome of that was."
Gwarube visited Dendron Secondary School outside Polokwane as part of a national listening and learning tour.
“I’m conducting nine provincial visits across the country to come and see for myself the education sector play. My view is that you can’t understand the sector, as somebody who is new in the sector, I can’t understand it if I don’t see it myself,” she said.
