5 things you need to know about education in Gauteng


- More than 1.2 million learners benefit from the no-fee policy

- More than 1.4 million learners are reached through the comprehensive school nutrition programme

- Just under 100 thousand learners are supported with free scholar transport

- Ten schools of specialization is being established

- Since 2014, 43 new schools have been built


Today is also the last day for parents to register their grade ones and eights online for class space next year. If you do not register your child online by today (Monday 12 June2017) you will have to wait until early next year to be assisted by the education department. To do the online registration- go to www.education.gpg.gov.za

Gauteng Premier David Makhura on schools of specialization:


"The continuing mismatch between the education system and the skills required by key sectors of industry is leading to many skills development initiatives that seek to respond to the skills gap, as we have learnt from business in our engagements with them across the province. We have since established schools of specialization to curb this problem."
