Gift of the Givers will provide food parcels for mineworkers in Limpopo, on Monday, spokeswoman Emily Thomas said.

"We will be at Tumela and Dichaba mines from 12pm."

She said 600 people would be given food in Tumela and another 600 at Dichaba.

Gift of the Givers has distributed food at various mine shafts in Rustenburg in the North West to help mineworkers unable to afford food due to the protected wage strike in the platinum mines in Rustenburg and Northam in Limpopo.

Members of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) downed tools at Lonmin, Impala Platinum, and Anglo American Platinum on
January 23 demanding a basic monthly salary of R12,500 per month.

They rejected the companies' offer that would bring their cash remuneration to R12,500 by July 2017.

The strike now in its 123rd day has been marred by intimidation and violence that has led to the death of five National Union of Mineworkers members.

The labour court was facilitating talks between Amcu and platinum producers at an undisclosed location in Johannesburg.

No agreement was reached on Friday.

The strike has cost the companies R19.6 billion in revenue and employees have lost R8.7bn in earnings according to a website created by the companies.
