Forensic report clears Masuku of corruption
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
A forensic report by investigator Paul O' Sullivan has cleared Gauteng Health MEC, Dr Bandile Masuku and his wife of any wrongdoing in the procurement of Covid-19 PPE's.
The Masukus have been implicated in the Gauteng multi-million-rand PPE tender controversy by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
O' Sullivan, who was appointed by Darryl Furman & Associates Attorneys, a company appointed by Masuku to carry out independent investigation, says Masuku is not guilty of any wrongdoing.
He says after thorough investigations, it is clear that Masuku was not involved in any decision making.
"We are satisfied that Doctor Masuku has not been involved in any hanky panky and the people of Gauteng should be satisfied that he is the MEC for health,” said O' Sullivan .
“I am satisfied that he was not involved in any decision-making process on the procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE), he was not engaged in meetings with suppliers or in decision-making processes on which supplier should be appointed.”
He says Masuku's only role was to ensure that hospitals are provided with resources.
"His only demand was for the PPE's that were required in various health institutions to be delivered on time, in the right condition and for the right specifications."
"He had no idea that Royal Bhaca Projects was appointed as the supplier, until after the allegations started coming out in connection with Hamilton Ndlovu," said the investigator.
O' Sullivan says a thorough investigation should be carried out.
"it would be considered appropriate for a full-scale forensic investigation to be carried out, under the auspices of the DPCI possibly guided by the Investigative Directorate of the NPA, and assisted by the SIU to determine what offences have been committed and who should be criminally charged in respect thereof,."
Gauteng Premier David Makhura is expected to give an update on the SIU report.
