Block was handed a 15-year sentence for corruption and money laundering in 2016.

He is also a former Northern Cape MEC for Transport, Roads and Public Works.

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says Block is rehabilitated and is ready to be reintegrated into society.

"Block was an active inmate, having participated in a number of correctional programmes, and went on to obtain a Diploma in Business Management.

"Reports by the specialists are part of the material submitted to the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board, as they provide details in terms of the inmate’s readiness for social reintegration.

"Block benefited from the Special Remission of Sentences of 2019, 2020 and 2023, thus bringing forward his minimum detention period to 13 September 2023.”

Block will complete the remainder of the sentence at home under supervision until his sentence expires on 26 June 2029.

Earlier this year, while in prison, Block was charged with fraud in connection with a R55 million tender in the Northern Cape.
