Updated | By Lonwabo Miso

"The ANC Gauteng has learned with shock and sadness the news of a sudden passing away of comrade Mshiyeni Elliot Sogoni," spokesman Dumisa Ntuli said in a statement.
"The ANC sends its deepest condolences to the family, comrades and relatives."
Sogoni, 62, died last week.
Sogoni was a member of the Gauteng provincial legislature for two terms after the 1994 elections.
From 2004 he was a member of the National Council of Provinces. He was the provincial whip and a co-chairman of the joint budget committee.
In 2009, he was elected to the National Assembly where he served as chairman of appropriations.
"He was one of the active, committed and hard-working parliamentarians who ensured that ANC policy positions and resolutions find expression in his legislative work of Parliament," Ntuli said.
"We are deeply pained by the loss of such a well-versed cadre who was armed with revolutionary theory, academic know-how and a wealth of experience in serving the movement and its organs."
Before 1994, Sogoni was part of the United Democratic Front and a trade unionist leading the national treasury of the SA Railway and Harbour Workers Union.
Sogoni leaves behind his wife Nomawethu Mazibula Sogoni, seven children and three grandchildren.
His memorial service will be held at the Vosloorus Civic Hall on Wednesday. He will be buried on Saturday.
