Former Joburg metro cop handed 3-year sentence
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
A former Johannesburg metro police office has been handed a three year sentence after he was earlier convicted on a charge of attempted murder.

The sentence was suspended for five years and he will serve 24 months of his sentence under correctional supervision.
Constable Donald Nyiko Mpangela was earlier found guilty of attempted murder by the Orlando Magistrate’s Court.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokesperson Ndileka Cola says the metro cops were conducting an operation next to Bara taxi rank in 2015.
"A certain taxi approached the police, the driver did not stop when stopped by the police officers, instead it sped off. The JMPD official Donald Mpangela shot at the fleeing taxi.
“Unfortunately, an African woman who was seated at the back seat was shot on her back and taken to hospital for treatment.”
