Former KZN police commissioner granted bail in SAPS corruption case

Former KwaZulu-Natal top cop, General Mmamonyane Ngobeni has been granted R20 000 bail at the Durban Magistrates court.
Her co-accused, Captain Aswin Narainpershad, was granted R10 000 bail.
This relates to an R47 million corruption case involving Durban businessman Thoshan Panday and the SAPS.
Panday and another police official, Colonel Navin Madhoe, were granted bail last week.

"The two appeared in connection with allegations of fraud and corruption related to the inflation of accommodation prices for KZN SAPS during the 2010 Fifa World Cup tournament," said the NPA's Sipho Ngwenya.
"There are further allegations regarding subsequent attempts to bribe a police officer," Ngwenya added.
The matter has been postponed to 11 November, all four accused have handed over their passports and are not allowed to leave KwaZulu-Natal.
