Former Parktown Boys High water polo coach found guilty

Former Parktown Boys High water polo coach, Collan Rex, has been found guilty of 12 counts of assault and 144 counts of sexual assault.
The judgement was handed down at the Gauteng South High Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Friday,.
The disgraced coach was initially charged with 327 counts which range from attempted murder, one of rape, assault, exposing children to pornography and sexual grooming as well as sexual assault.
However, he admitted to 144 counts.
The Gauteng Education Dpartment welcomed the judgement.
"It was mixed emotions but relieved that we got a guilty verdict, we must indicate this is a huge pain that, we subjected our children through. We wish to thank the entire school population including SGB, learners, educators, and parents for supporting affected learners. We also extend our gratitude to the law enforcement agencies, including the police and the prosecution team for their tireless efforts of securing a fitting conviction” says spokesperson Steve Mabona.
The department thanked the community for the support is gave to the victims.
"It is also important to also acknowledge our stakeholders like Teddy Bear Clinic and other psychological workers and all health professionals who worked on the case, we are indeed indebted to you.
"This should serve as a deterrent to all those who are found to be sexually assaulting our learners that they will face full might of the law," adds Mabona.
