The Hawks in Polokwane have arrested a former municipal manager of the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality on charges of fraud and corruption.
The 60-year-old was arrested at Ramogwerane village outside Groblersdal on Tuesday.
Hawks spokesperson Lethunya Mmuroa says the suspect is involved in a corruption case that cost the municipality over half a million rand.
"During May 2017, the suspect allegedly failed to prevent irregular expenditure at the municipality by appointing a consulting company to render auditing services in the municipality without complying with the Municipal Finance Management Act.
"As a result, the municipality suffered a loss of more than R686 000.00.”
The suspect is expected to appear before the Groblersdal Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
