A former school teacher from Limpopo has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his daughter.
The 52-year-old has been sentenced to life imprisonment for rape.
He began raping his daughter from the age of 10.
Limpopo police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says the man had been sentenced in the Polokwane High Court on Tuesday.
"The accused started sexually molesting the child from 2007 to 2008 while the victim was still 10 years old."
He says the man had been raping his daughter while her mother was not home.
"The victim fell pregnant in 2013. The pregnancy was later terminated, but he continued raping her until 2014 when she ultimately blew the whistle by reporting this ordeal and this suspect was arrested," Ngoepe says.
Provincial police commissioner Nneke Jim Ledwaba has applauded the team of detectives working at the Seshego cluster's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
"We hope that this sentence will serve as a deterrent to all the rapists out there for them to stop targeting the most vulnerable members of our society. The long arm of the law will deal with them mercilessly and without compromise," he says.
