Updated | By Sibahle Motha
A former senior government official from Gauteng has been arrested by the Hawks.
The official, who cannot be named as she is yet to appear in court, was arrested in Alberton on Wednesday.
The charges against her relate to a tender awarded to the Department of Human Settlements to eradicate asbestos roofs in the Free State.
The Hawks claim the 56-year-old official made use of the same service provider in Gauteng, and received a kickback of more than R7 million in the process.
She was still the acting Head of Department at Human Settlements in Gauteng at the time of the awarding of the tender.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.”
Twelve other suspects are already facing charges related to the asbestos case, which saw R255 millionplundered from the Free State government’s coffers during Ace Magashule’s time as premier.
Among the group of suspects is businessman Edwin Sodi.
