Four people, including two street patrollers, are being treated in hospital after they were shot in Hillbrow, Johannesburg police said on Monday.
"It is alleged that two street patrollers were patrolling at the corners of Abel and Catherine Streets in Hillbrow when they decided to search a suspect, and when they approached him he pulled out a firearm and shot at them at around 7pm on Sunday," said spokeswoman Lt-Col Katlego Mogale.
Two bystanders were also shot.
"The suspect was arrested by the police with the help of community members," Mogale said.
The firearm used was reported stolen during a house robbery and theft in Bramley and belonged to the police.
The man is expected to appear in court soon, Mogale said.
