The Mokopane Regional Court in Limpopo on Tuesday handed down hefty sentences against four men convicted for armed robberies committed in the N1 between Limpopo and Gauteng.

Limpopo police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the men were terrorising motorists on the road.
“The four convicts were terrorising motorists along the N1 road who either stopped on the roadside to relieve themselves, experienced breakdowns or got punctures along they way after driving over spikes placed them as a trap, robbing them at gunpoint.
“The crimes were committed since 2019 under the policing areas of Bela Bela, Modimolle and Mokopane.”
Three of the four criminals, who were incarcerated on Tuesday, were rearrested after escaping from a police vehicle.
One suspect who escaped together with the other three prisoners, is still on the run.
“The four are still to face charges of escaping from lawful custody, robbery of a firearm, two counts of truck hijacking and attempted murder.”
