Four more granted bail in Liebenberg ‘diamond scam’

Last week, Magdelena Kleynhans, Dorothea Schulenberg, and Walter Niendinger were granted bail ranging from R20,000 to R100,000.
Louis Liebenberg and eight others were nabbed in Gauteng and the North West last week and charged with their alleged role in defrauding investors in an alleged diamond scam since 2019.
Four of the remaining six accused in the alleged R4 billion diamond scam case were granted bail by the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
This brings the number of accused persons out on bail to seven after the state’s postponement application did not oppose their release.
Nicolize van Heerden and Christelle Badenhorst were both granted bail of R5,000 each on Thursday.
Badenhorst’s husband, Johannes, was granted bail of R15,000.
The court earlier heard that Badenhorst’s mother Dorothea Schulenberg, who is accused number four in the same case and was released on R20,000 bail last week, sold her car to raise the funds to post for her daughter and son-in-law.
Adriaan Strydom, a father of three minor children who worked abroad until 2019 and employs 13 people in his business, was granted R20,000 after the court was unconvinced by his claim of indigence.
The court adjourned briefly ahead of the opposed bail application of Diseree Liebenberg, the wife of the alleged mastermind of the investment scam Louis Liebenberg.
