Four nabbed for possession of lion bones

North West police arrested four suspects in connection with the possession of lion bones on Wednesday.

This comes after local authorities arrested a fourth suspect on Monday at his home where he was found in possession of lion bones.
The remains are believed to have been retrieved from a lion that was killed in Botswana.

Police spokesperson Tlangelani Rikhotso says all four suspects will face charges of contravening the National Environment Management-Biodiversity Act.
“The first suspect was arrested at his home where he was found in possession of lion bones, the team proceeded to arrest three other suspects who allegedly brought the lion bones to the first suspect.
“The lion was reportedly killed in Botswana and the arrested suspects allegedly transported its remains to South Africa in order to find a buyer.”
The suspects are expected to appear in the Mahikeng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
