Vrede crime prevention police officers arrested a 58-year-old man and confiscated dagga worth about R60,000 on Sunday, Free State police said.
The crime prevention team of Constables Sipho Moloi, Mbutana Motsoeneng, Richard Mokoena, and Mbokeleng Khanye were patrolling the R103 outside Vrede at about 6am when they spotted a suspicious white Toyota Hilux bakkie with a Gauteng registration number, Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said.
They stopped the bakkie to search it, and found that a blanket in the back covered 20 large plastic bags containing dagga with an estimated street value of R60,000.
They confiscated both the bakkie and the dagga and arrested the driver, from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.
He was expected to appear in the Vrede Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of being in possession of dagga, Mophiring said.
