Friends and colleagues gather in support of Shiraaz Mohamed
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The Lenasia South community came together to hold a vigil for kidnapped South African photographer Shiraaz Mohamed.
Mohamed was taken by an unknown group of men in Syria as he was making his way back towards the Turkish border last week Tuesday.
The community gathered at the local civic centre with placards and candles in support of Mohamed and his family.
A group from the neighbourhood watch marched to the venue.

Several friends and colleagues spoke about his passion for photography and his commitment to telling the story of ordinary people.
"He's one of the most humble people I have met along the way, a very caring person," a co-worker said.
Gauteng Transport MEC Ismail Vadi also attended the event to show his support.
"This is something that can happen to any journalist working in a conflict zone, so our hearts go out to the family and friends. We are quite confident that Shiraaz is well and that he will come back," said Vadi.
