FS, NC and NW exempted from post office closures

Residents of the Free State, Northern Cape and North West will breathe a sigh of relief following the SA Post Office’s decision not to shut down any offices in the region.
SA Post Office national spokesperson Johan Kruger says none of the offices in the central region will be closed.
He says management decided to merge post offices in big cities where they are 5 kilometers or less apart.
Kruger says the decision for the action follows the obligation by regulations to have one post office for every 10,000 adults in the country.
The SA Post Office will close 130 branches nationwide amid its financial challenges which have been worsened by the lockdown.
“No post offices in Central SA are affected. It is only Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Gauteng, and KZN,” he adds.
“The SA Post Office has set out to right-size and improve its extensive network of outlets across the length and breadth of South Africa. Roughly 1500 post offices are located all over South Africa, including very remote villages and towns.
“This footprint enables the post office to reach as many citizens as possible - including those in far-flung, remote, and often rural areas,” Kruger adds.
