ICYMI | Fuel price shocks coming in August
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The Department of Energy has announced sharp fuel and energy increases effective from Wednesday, August 4.

Both grades of petrol will increase by 91.00 cents a litre, while the price of a litre of diesel will go up by between 55.58 c/l and 54.58 c/l.
Illuminating Paraffin will increase by 50 cents a litre and LPGas by R2,26 per kilogram.
Spokesperson for the department, Robert Maake, says the main reason for the increases is the rise in crude oil prices, the movement in international refined petroleum product prices, and the depreciation of the Rand on average against the US Dollar from 13.92 to 14.54 Rand per USD during the time under review.
There are also the additional costs of a state levy that will come into effect in August.
"A levy of 6.58 cents per liter will be implemented into the prices structures of petrol and diesel in line with the Self-Adjusting Slate Mechanism rules effective from the 4 of August 2021," adds Maake.
