Fuel prices could rise again in October
The Automobile Association (AA) believes 95 octane petrol could rise by 19 cents a litre and diesel by 25 cents in October.
The reason for the expected hike in fuel prices is the attacks on the Abqaiq oil refinery in Saudi Arabia in mid-September, which saw a spike in the international brent crude oil price.
AA spokesperson Layton Beard adds although 95 octane petrol is predicted to increase, 93 petrol will see a decrease.
“93 octane is bucking the trend and we are predicting it will decline by 4 cents a litre. This decline would obviously have been more significant had the rand remained more stable against the US dollar.”
Beard warns any further attacks could have a detrimental effect on fuel prices in South Africa over the festive season.
