Fugitive Rabbi Eliezer Berland back in court
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Fugitive Israeli Rabbi Eliezer Berland is scheduled to appear at the Randburg Magistrate's Court again Thursday morning.
The elderly Berland, who is the leader of a sect in Jerusalem, allegedly fled Israel in 2012 after allegations of sexual harassment were made against him by some of his female followers.
He was arrested earlier, after a car chase in Sandton.
Berland appeared in court earlier this week, when arguments for and against his bail application were made.
His defence argued he should get bail due to his age and ailing health, however, the state maintained he is a flight risk as he has a friend who is a pilot at Lanseria airport.
He allegedly fled once before after he was granted bail in Holland.
