A further decline in new Covid-19 cases for SA

South Africa has recorded the lowest new daily Covid-19 cases since the start of the second wave in December.
The latest report by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize shows that 1 376 new infections were reported in the latest 24-hour period, bringing the total number of cases to 1 477 511.
Although the number of new cases is declining, the country’s Covid-19 related death toll is increasing.
A further 183 deaths have been reported.
“Regrettably, 183 deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 27, Free State 24, Gauteng 45, Kwa-Zulu
Natal 12, Limpopo 3, Mpumalanga 21, North West 19, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 30. This brings the total to 46 473 deaths.
We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients,” reads the statement.
The recovery rate now stands at 1 363 947, representing a recovery rate of 92%.
The cumulative total of tests conducted to date is 8 511 410 with 15 599 new tests recorded since the last report.
