Further postponement to Unisa graduation ceremonies
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The University of South Africa (Unisa) has announced on Tuesday that graduations will be postponed until Monday, March 28.
This comes after last week’s graduations were disrupted by protesting staff members affiliated with the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu).
Unisa graduations were supposed to take place from Wednesday, but Unisa spokesperson Victor Dlamini says the delay is necessary just to be cautious.
“The union made it quite clear that until such time that the money for the salary adjustments was in the accounts, they will protest. And we don’t want a repeat of what happened.

“The impasse between management and organised labour has now been resolved with the approval of the salary adjustments by the University Council."
Dlamini adds that the staff members will be paid their increases before the ceremony.
“So the monies by then will be in the accounts of the members and we expect that they will be prepared to see the graduation ceremonies go ahead and actually support them.”
