Future of defaulting municipalities still up in the air
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Eskom held back on its threat to cut the power to defaulting municipalities this morning.

"They are still in discussions with Eskom which is why we have not interrupted their power supplies. We do believe that we are on the verge of coming to some agreement," says Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe.
Two municipalities in Mpumalanga, one municipality in the North West, two municipalities in the Free State and three municipalities in the Northern Cape had not made payments or debt repayment plans by last week.
Several municipalities were given their final extension last week, but Phasiwe says they are hopeful that all debts would be settled.
"We will have to give these discussions time to be completed, which we hope will happen before Friday," says Phasiwe.
