"SAPS arrested members of a gang of robbers in KwaMhlanga after members of the national intervention unit responded to information of a gang breaking into offices," Police spokesperson, Vish Naiddo told Jacaranda FM News.

He says the gang broke into the Thembisile Hani Licencing Authority and forced open a safe.

"The suspects used an angle grinder to obtain entry into the safe and as they were exiting the building a shootout ensued. One suspect was shot and killed," he says.

He adds 9 were arrested on the scene, while the 10th suspect was wounded and is under police guard in hospital.

The nine suspects are between the ages of 32 and 46 while police recovered three 9mm pistols and various implements like an angle grinder, grinding discs, crowbars and two-way radios that was allegedly used in the robbery.

"We also seized three vehicles believed to have been used by the suspects." Naidoo confirms.

They will be appearing in court soon.
