Gauteng police are searching for an unknown number of suspects who blew up a cash-in-transit van in Johannesburg on Friday morning.
The cash van was travelling on the Golden Highway when it came under fire.
Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk said a group of armed suspects intercepted the van, blew it up and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
The suspects also stole a rifle and two pistols from the security officers.
"It is alleged that the suspects fled the scene with a blue Audi and a white Hilux. The guards sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
"Further investigations are still underway.”
