Police in Cape Town on Tuesday arrested five men linked to a string of business robberies and cash-in-transit heists in the Western Cape and Gauteng.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said that on Tuesday, police from Somerset West received information on the whereabouts of a blue BMW with four males occupants that was allegedly involved in business and cash-in-transit robberies.
“The members were busy conducting Crime Prevention patrols in the central business area of Somerset West when they spotted the vehicle at the Post office with no occupants inside,” Van Wyk said.
“Members monitored the BMW and a few minutes later five occupants returned to the vehicle and the robbers were arrested.
“Four of the robbers are linked to business robberies of cellphone shops and one ATM bombing in Bellville, Cape Town, Malmesbury, Brackenfell and Somerset West,” he said. “One of the arrested perpetrators had a warrant of arrest for seven different cases in Stellenbosch and Gauteng area.”
Somerset West station commander, Colonel Mary-Ann Williams, commended the members for the “outstanding arrest”.
