Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the province is aiming to vaccinate 100 000 people a day by August.

On Tuesday, Makhura visited several vaccination sites, including Witkoppen Clinic, which is one of major sites in the province.
The clinic currently jabs around 600 people a day, although Makhura has vowed to support them in order to increase it to 1000.
The province managed to reach just over 61 000 daily jabs last week.
“Our provincial command council has just approved our vaccination ramp-up plan,” Makhura said.
“It includes the partnership between provincial government and major private sector companies which are availing a lot of support material.”
He said the support includes the availability of major venues like the Tshwane Events Centre and making use of technology to quicken the process.
The country sits on 6 million vaccinations in seven months.
The Health Department is racing towards its target of 300 000 inoculations a day.
“This past Saturday and Sunday we didn’t do as good as we did the previous weekend. So we are doubling the number of vaccination sites and in addition we are also doubling the number of vaccinators,” said Makhura.
The Executive Director at Witkoppen Clinic, Dr Jean Basset, said for them to increase the number of jabs they need more volunteers to assist them in administering the vaccinations.
Makhura said the provincial command council will also be taking vaccinations to major companies that have a large workforce.
