Gauteng ANC wants to restore 'party integrity’

The African
National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng has been given the green light by the party
to hold its provincial and regional conferences.
The party’s provincial secretary Hope Papo and acting chairperson David Makhura briefed the media in Johannesburg on Sunday.
"These conferences will be attended by a total of 471 branches that have passed the membership audit conducted by the national headquarters in March and April 2018. Branches will elect their selected delegates from regional and provincial conferences and nominate candidates for the regional and provincial leadership,” Papo said.
He said the party’s offices have been inundated with requests for membership forms and cards since President Cyril Ramaphosa was elected ANC leader in December.
"We call on all ANC members and supporters to participate actively and constructively in the branch meetings and conferences in order to ensure that Gauteng province has strong, dynamic and credible leadership at all levels."
Papo said they hope to lure back disgruntled members in the run-up to next year’s elections.
"We call upon professionals, businesspeople and trade union leaders to join us in building a thriving democracy underpinned by genuine equality, non-racialism, non-sexism, and prosperity for all. The ANC needs your skills and conscientious commitment.
"To improved service delivery to communities, jobs to the unemployed, especially the youth and radical socio-economic transformation that will lift the living standard for all citizens. The conferences will be a festival of ideas about renewal and modernisation of the ANC and a healthy contest among our cadres, in the true traditions of the ANC."
Papo believes the conferences will restore the integrity of the ANC in Gauteng.
"The successful conclusion of our conferences will put the ANC in a formidable and unassailable position to win the 2019 elections decisively."
