Gauteng DoE 'deeply concerned' about bullying at Ferndale High School

Lesufi says his Department was informed that the perpetrator has allegedly been tormenting fellow learners on several occasions, "which is really concerning."
The Department of Education (DoE) in Gauteng says it is "deeply concerned" about an apparent violent bullying incident at Ferndale High School.
In a statement, the MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, says: "We have received a video clip, which has gone viral on social media, where a Grade 9 female learner is seen assaulting a fellow Grade 9 female learner, dragging her with hair badly, outside the school premises."
He goes on to note: "It is encouraging that, the perpetrator has been temporarily suspended until the necessary disciplinary process is undertaken in due course."

Lesufi says his Department was informed that the perpetrator has allegedly been tormenting fellow learners on several occasions, "which is really concerning."
“We are happy that the said perpetrator has been suspended," he says.
"We condemn ill-discipline in our environment. Accordingly, we do not underestimate such incidents especially bullying which is a serious concern to us, we will monitor this investigation closely.”
"Our psycho-social team will on Monday, 12 October, visit the school to support all affected," he concluded.
