Gauteng economy grows by 2.9%

The country's economic hub has managed to create 47 000 jobs in the first two quarters of 2016.
Gauteng Finance MEC Barbara Creecy has outlined the province's medium term budget in the provincial legislature.
R250 billion will be spent on health and education over the next three years.
Gauteng's economy grew by 2.9 percent in the second quarter - up from 0.1 percent the previous quarter.
With over 200 000 jobs created in 2015, MEC Creecy says they expect the province's economy to perform better than the national economy - growing by 0.8 percent.
"The top five sectors that have created employment in Gauteng over the last five years are manufacturing, transport, finance and business services, trade, and community services. Those sectors, last year, contributed significantly to the fact that we created about a quarter of a million jobs," says Creecy.
