Gauteng Hawks launch manhunt for cop killers
The Hawks in Gauteng have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who shot and killed an on-duty police officer on the N1.
Lieutenant-Colonel Frans Mothipa was shot near the Hammanskraal toll plaza on Sunday.
Spokesperson Thandi Mbambo says a case of murder has been opened at the Hammanskraaal police station.
“He sustained gunshot wounds to the head. He lost control of the vehicle which rolled and landed on the ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Those who attack police officers are a threat to the country. We are confident that the investigation team will do diligent work and arrest the suspects, ensuring that the responsible criminals face the full might of the law."
