Gauteng Health mum on accusations it withheld food from pregnant woman
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Gauteng Department of Health has been unable to clarify the circumstances around a pregnant woman at Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital in Soweto apparently being withheld food.
The woman was thought to have contracted Covid-19.
The Sowetan reported on Thursday that Kgopotso Hlatshwayo was isolated and left without food for three days after she showed flu-like symptoms.
The department was only willing to say that it is aware of the complaints.
Spokesperson Kwara Kekana says the matter was addressed through the hospital’s quality assurance unit.
"A redress meeting was held on 22 May at the hospital regarding the complaint brought forward by the client and her concerns were addressed.
“Infection, prevention, and control guidelines are adhered to, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
She added that all admitted patients at the various provincial hospitals are provided with food.
“Food is served to various patients as per the schedule and all admitted patients are provided with meals by the institution.”
