Gauteng law enforcement 'ready' for elections - Mthombeni

Gauteng police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni on Tuesday reiterated that law enforcement stands ready to ensure safe elections.
He spoke at the signing of the Electoral Code of Conduct in Kempton Park on Tuesday.
Mthombeni said intelligence structures have been hard at work since the announcement of the May 29 election date.
Mthombeni assured residents that all measures are in place to ensure smooth elections in the province.
“As the law enforcement agency within the economic hub of the country, in collaboration with the IEC and other stakeholders, like the Community Policing Forums, our main objective will be to ensure that there is a safe a secure environment during the election period by means of prevention, combatting, investigation, maintaining public order as it’s enshrined in our constitution."
Meanwhile, the IEC in the province says preparations for the May 29 elections are at an advanced stage, and the printing of ballots are already underway.
