Gauteng matric pupil commits suicide

The first day of the Matric National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams arrived with devastating news of a Grade 12 boy learner from Kagiso Secondary School whoallegedly committing suicide at a friend’s home.

The Gauteng Department of Education says the circumstances surrounding the 17 -year-old’s death are still being investigated.

 

The department's spokesperson Steve Mabona says a Psycho Social team was dispatched to the school to provide necessary support to the school community and family.

“It is unfortunate and regrettable that a learner decided to take his own life. 

 

"We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the school community, during this difficult period of mourning,” says Memeber of the Executive Committe (MEC) for EducationPanyaza Lesufi.

 

Meanwhile, two pupils from Gauteng North and Ekurhuleni North reported that they were Covid 19 positive ahead of writing the first paper on Thursday.

 

Education and health officials ensured that both candidates were afforded an opportunity to write their examination under controlled conditions.
