Frustration as Gauteng online registration system goes live
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Gauteng parents and guardians have been frustrated after the online system to register grade 1 and grade 8 pupils for 2017 only went live late on Tuesday afternoon.
Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi addressed the media after the online system didn't go live as scheduled on Tuesday morning.
The system crashed last week due to high volumes.

Lesufi said he also realised that not all the addresses, of especially township schools, were available and those schools were not on the system.
"The number of informal settlements that don't have addresses, it was going to disadvantage them. We needed then to drop all the coordinates and use reliable coordinates. You then have to apply through the name of the school. That decision meant that the entire software needed to be reprogrammed. So I had to swallow my pride and say 'reprogramme'," Panyaza said.
