Gauteng opens first School of Specialisation
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The Gauteng Provincial Government opened the province's first "School of Specialisation" in Soweto on Monday.
The department hopes to have 27 such schools launched by 2019 which will be distinct from normal public schools because they will have a strong technical and vocational content.
The schools will focus on maths, science, engineering, commerce, entrepreneurship, sports, arts and culture.
The department hopes that by honing skills in these areas, it will be able to transform schools in Gauteng and help grow the skills base needed for economic growth.
Provincial education spokesperson Oupa Bodibe said they want to grow the skills base needed for economic growth.
"The Curtis Nkondo School of Specialisation replaces one dysfunctional school...it is launching a new vision for the department by creating a new category of schools that will specialise in particular subjects," Bodibe said.
