Gauteng opens virtual libraries during lockdown
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Gauteng residents will be able to get some reading done during the national lockdown after the provincial government opened its e-book libraries.
Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Mbali Hlophe says the libraries will be open to all residents, even to those without membership.
“As part of the Covid-19 lockdown period, we have now opened our virtual library services to all Gauteng residents to access e-books, e-journals, e-newspapers, e-magazines and articles at the comfort of their own homes. We have waived all the requirements so that people can register."
Hlophe says the lockdown period can be a bit lonely for some, with limited or nothing to do.
"We have thus initiated this move to make our library services more accessible so that people don't feel isolated while practising social distancing.”
