The department reacted to the video, shortly after it went viral on social media, saying it is receiving attention from the police commissioner’s office.

Gauteng police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza says the departmental investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.

“At this stage, it has been established that the 18-year old female learner was indeed taken to the Krugersdorp police station and subsequently released on the same day, unharmed, into the care of her mother.

“To this end, the members captured on the video have been identified and the departmental investigation is underway. We can confirm that the vehicle captured on the video is a state vehicle and that the members were on duty conducting routine patrols at the time of the incident.

“Whatever measures that will be taken, will be guided by the outcome of the investigation,” says Kweza.

The disturbing video, which was posted on Thursday morning, shows a young woman in a school uniform being dragged by one police member, while another one seemingly assists him.

Fellow schoolmates who are witnessing the matter stand in disbelief while the pupil is heard kicking and screaming.

The woman is forced into what looks like a private vehicle which then leaves the scene.
