Gauteng police monitor another two land grab hotspots
Updated | By Gerda de Sousa
Over 2000 people tried to gain access to an empty property in the Waterfall area on Saturday.
Gauteng police's Granville Meyer says they arrested 5 people on Saturday afternoon, after they cut the fence surrounding an open piece of veld on Saturday afternoon.
"They didn't have a chance to erect any shacks. Police were called in and dispersed the crowd."
Meyer says the crowd didn't return, but police are monitoring the area.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Midrand Magistates' Court on Monday.
Authorities are also keeping an eye on the Frankenwald area in Marlboro, north of Johannesburg, where a group of people tried to illegally invade land on Saturday and Sunday morning.
"We have deployed Public Order Police, as well as members from our Johannesburg North police cluster. Members of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department are also on the scene."
