Gauteng ready for 2016 exams

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the provincial department is ready for the 2016 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examination.

"We have very high expectations for each learner to succeed and reclaim our number one status as the top performing province in the country," Lesufi said.

 

A total of 677 141 full time and 150 183 part-time candidates have registered for the NSC exams nationally.

 

This is 9216 candidates more than the number that sat in 2015.

 

The 2016 NSC Examinations will officially start on 24 October 2016 and end on 29 November 2016.

 

The exam results will be released on 5 January 2017.

Here are some facts about the NSC Examination in Gauteng:

 

  • Exams will be written in 1185 Examination Centres in the province's 15 districts
  • 112 192 full-time candidates and 41 781 part-time candidates have registered in Gauteng to write the NSC exams
  • Gauteng has the second highest number of candidates, with 153 973 registered. KwaZulu Natal has the most with over 207 000 candidates
  • There is a R55 000 bursary reward for the top three achievers per school at an institution of higher learning
  • Learners can phone Childline on 08000 55 555 or on their website for counselling assistance
  • The provincial exam results will be released on 6 January 2017
