Gauteng legislature requests ‘thorough’ report into Helen Joseph Hospital complaints
The Gauteng legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Health has requested a report from the Department of Health into the Helen Joseph Hospital furore.
Over the weekend, the hospital made headlines after a patient alleged ill-treatment by staff at the hospital.
A video posted by former broadcaster Tom London complaining about the treatment dished out to patients has gone viral on social media.
In the video, London complains about what he claims to be the rude attitude of doctors at the health facility, as well as the state of the hospital’s infrastructure.
In the video captioned “Welcome to Helen Joseph Circus Hospital”, London accused the doctors of lacking empathy and compassion for patients.
"The committee has promptly engaged with the Department of Health and Wellness, seeking clarity on the allegations raised by Mr London," the committee said on Monday.
"While social media can swiftly highlight public issues, such posts often lack the comprehensive context needed for well-informed conclusions,
"The committee has requested a thorough report from the department, enabling it to fulfil its oversight responsibilities effectively.”
