A Gauteng traffic officer died after he was knocked down by a bus at a roadblock on the N1 north in Pretoria on Thursday.

MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has called on law enforcement officers not to show any mercy to motorists who disregard the rules of the road.
“The MEC has since instructed the law enforcement to be tougher on anyone who transgress the rules of the road,” says the department’s Ndivhuho Gadisi.
At least 22 people have died on the province’s roads over the Christmas period. This includes 13 pedestrians.
“The MEC has called on law enforcement agencies to keep the Gauteng region safe by enforcing the rules of law on all drivers who continue to disregard the rules of the road,” says Gadisi.
Preliminary figures show an increase of 16% in deaths nationwide from December 1 and 18 compared to the same period last year.
