Updated | By Neo Motloung
Gauteng Traffic conducted mass Covid-19 testing of officers and their family members at FNB Stadium in Soweto, south of Johannesburg.
A total of 57 traffic officers have been infected with the virus, with 32 recoveries and 25 others in isolation.
Gauteng Traffic spokesperson Sello Maremane says they expect to test close to 700 officers on Thursday.
“We believe in the principle that says prevention is better than cure. You will realise since the 27 March this people have been hard at work.
“They are our frontline workers, we have to make sure that they are safe, we just want to take precautionary measures. We have also invited their family members to be part of us and test them also.”
Gauteng is the hardest-hit province with 144 582 confirmed infections, 1 156 deaths and 77 397 recoveries.
