Out of the 112, 59 were males and 53 were females.
This compared to 167 babies that were delivered on 1 January 2023.
In total 411 babies were delivered in the country in the first 11 hours of 2024.
Health Minister Dr. Joe Phaahla announced that Gauteng had the most births at 112, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 84 and Eastern Cape with 52 babies.
Phaahla was addressing the media at the Scottburgh’s GJ Crookes Hospital on Monday.
This comes as Limpopo had eight teenagers among the mothers who delivered New Year babies.
The youngest mother is a 15-year-old who delivered a baby boy at the Malamulele Hospital.
